What are GardenSoxx made of?
GardenSoxx® are made of 8" diameter polypropylene mesh. Prefilled GardenSoxx are filled with Filtrexx® GrowingMedia™, a high quality compost. Empty GardenSoxx are also available.
How are GardenSoxx available?
GardenSoxx are currently available for wholesale purchasing only for farms, landscapers, and retailers. Contact us to learn more.
How much compost is needed to fill GardenSoxx?
One cubic yard of compost will make approximately 60' of GardenSoxx. The finished linear footage may vary, depending on the number of cuts and sections, as each cut requires a tie-off that uses up some length. We recommend using zip ties instead of knots to maximize the finished length.
How are GardenSoxx filled?
GardenSoxx can easily be filled with high quality compost or planting mix blend. Small sections can be filled by hand, and farms or landscapers can fill long or multiple sections with our equipment. Contact us to learn more.
How are GardenSoxx planted?
Planting is easy with GardenSoxx. Using a knife or scissors, simply cut a hole in the mesh large enough to plant the plug or seeds. A 2” hole or smaller is recommended. Follow the proper planting depths for the plant, cover the seed or plug with the compost inside the sock, and water as usual. Learn more here.
How many plants can fit in a GardenSoxx?
The number of plants that can be placed in GardenSoxx varies. Some plants, like zucchini, need a lot of space to grow, and other plants, like lettuce, can be planted more densely. Flowers can be planted anywhere from 2 to 8 flower plugs in each GardenSoxx, depending on preference for growth density. View our planting guide.
What can types of plants grow in GardenSoxx?

How much water does a GardenSoxx require?
Because of its innovative mesh system, GardenSoxx are nearly impossible to overwater because it allows excess water to drain. However, that means as the mesh breathes, it will dry out sooner than normal soil. We recommend a half-gallon of water per day for every 2' of GardenSoxx. What about weeds?
Prefilled GardenSoxx are filled with a high quality GrowingMedia that is free of weeds. In addition, the mesh completely holds this growing media, and helps to keep weeds from coming inside the sock. If GardenSoxx are placed on a grassy or weedy area, we recommend laying a weed barrier, such as a piece of geotextile plastic, available at any home improvement store.
How long do GardenSoxx last?
GardenSoxx can last for at least two growing seasons without additional fertilizers or nutrients. After two seasons, the plants begin to deplete the nutrients in the GrowingMedia or compost. It is possible to plant beyond two years. We suggest plants that do not require as many nutrients or a root crop.
How should GardenSoxx be cared for during winter months?
We recommend storing GardenSoxx outside during the winter. GardenSoxx do best in outdoor conditions, because this allows the moisture content and biological activity to remain high.
What else can GardenSoxx be used for?
GardenSoxx are popular for growing vegetables, flowers and native plants. GardenSoxx can be used in a variety of applications, from large scale agricultural farms and community gardens, to small hobby gardening. GardenSoxx are also great for starting a rain garden, and can be used on green roofs or in ponds. GardenSoxx can easily fit in most standard planters, plant stands, and window boxes. Because of the portability, GardenSoxx can grow almost anywhere.
Are GardenSoxx bisphenol A (BPA) free?
Yes, GardenSoxx are made of polypropylene (recyclable #5), which is a safe, BPA-free alternative to polycarbonate plastics.
